"I went to the Jewish Board of Guardians, because one of my cousins was in the same trade and I thought 'well if he likes it I’ll give it a try', so I went to the Jewish Board of Guardians, they put me in this place in Cavell street and it was a union place so that was okay and it gave me my union cards when I was 18 and that was it, so didn’t have to bother about that, you know, yeah"

"The only active way I am is involved with the JACS... It’s a culture, Jewish Association Cultural Societies, and membership now is roughly 110, our JACS prefers more speakers than entertainers, so every week of the year other than holy days, and because the odd Christmas and New Year’s eve and we average between 50s and 80s every week, yeah. So I’m quite pleased with that and I managed to get them after the service in schul to shout what’s on our programme."
