The

Project

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Silvertown Explosion, Eastside Community Heritage, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has embarked on a project to collect oral histories to be made into an exhibition on Silvertown and its history. The exhibition was shown alongside a talk by Graham Hill (co-author of ‘The Silvertown Explosion) at St Luke’s Church on 19th January, 2017.

In Spring 2017, the oral histories were used in Silvertown schools to educate students on local history through interactive drama workshops.

"The Silvertown Explosion devastated homes and families, and brought the horrors of the First World War into everyday lives.  A hundred years on, Eastside Community Heritage is pleased to have been given the opportunity to commemorate this horrendous event, ensuring that younger generations can learn, and not forget, this history.”
